(Vero Beach, Florida) – Bilingual staff and volunteers from the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVBIRC) will canvass high-need neighborhoods in Fellsmere to provide sterilization and pet healthcare assistance. This community outreach event will take place on Sunday, February 24 from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Lack of a community veterinarian, language barriers and a disproportionate number of families struggling financially are some of the issues making Fellsmere an important community to target. “Our goal is to help pets receive services that make a lasting impact,” Director of Animal Care Maria Ramirez said. According to Ramirez, the shelter will be offering Fellsmere residents a special “Boys for a Buck”  low-cost sterilization and vaccination program for unneutered male dogs and cats. Animals will be transported from Fellsmere to the shelter for vaccination and surgery on Monday, March 4.

The Boys for a Buck sterilization program for Fellsmere was graciously underwritten by Joanna and Agustin Salina while vaccines were donated by veterinary pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim.
