Talk on Good Dog Play Saturday, April 21

(Vero Beach, Florida) – Play between dogs is an important part of dog socialization but it’s important for dog lovers to know how to encourage play between dogs that’s both social and safe. To help local pet parents, The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVBIRC) will present “Good Dog Play: Learn How You Can Help Dogs Socialize Safely.” This free program will be held Saturday, April 21 from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in The Humane Society’s Adoption and Education Room located at 6230 77th St., Vero Beach.

The program will be presented by HSVBIRC’s Pet Behavior Coordinator Connie Ellis. Ellis is certified by the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors and is a charter member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

“Good Dog Play” will offer video demonstrations depicting typical dog greetings and interactions as well as problematic scenarios that may escalate between two or more canines. Some of these issues may arise when dogs are introduced while out walking or meeting in a dog park. Ellis will explain how to recognize and steer clear of problematic situations so that dogs and people can all be safe. Guests will receive handouts including materials on recognizing a dog’s body language.

Attendees are encouraged to call (772) 388-3331 ext. 19 to RSVP for the program. Guests are asked to leave their pets at home.
